September 1
Period 1 - State of the Class assembly
Periods 4,5,7 - Scary Vocabulary Activity (using traditonal resources and technology to define terms, identify the parts of speech, and identify connections bewtween/among words). Used 20 potential vocabulary terms from two textbook selections to create concept webs around one theme term. Students used dictionaries and Visuwords.com to explore word meanings and connections. Working in groups they completed large poster-sized concept webs. Discussed the differences bewteen sentence fragments and complete sentences. Lesson will continue tomorrow.

September 2

Periods 4,5,7 - Completed the vocabulary activity. Worked on identifying and correcting sentence fragments (subjects and predicates). Students are to complete a vocabulary mini-poster for homework. The poster MUST contain the term, its definition, identify the correct part of speech and use an illustration to help convey the meaning of the word. Students may also include word parts, origin, and any other details about the term in the poster.

September 3

Period 1 - Finished the vocabulary activity and fragments sentences on the concept web.
Periods 4 - Language textbbok pages 86-90 completed exercises 1,2, and 3. Due Tuesday.
Periods 5,7 - Shared the vocabulary posters. Language textbook pages 86-88 complete exercise 1. Due Tuesday.

September 7

Periods 4,5,7 - Complete the two subject and predicate worksheets for homework.

September 10
Periods 1,4,5,7 - "The Most Dangerous Game" pages 16-22. Read the Preparing to Read pages, Meet the Author section, and the first four pages of the story. Worked on locating story clues/details that allow readers to make predictions about the upcoming events. Discussed the important events and character traits seen in the opening of the story.


September 13
*Progress Reports - Sent home to be signed and returned*

Periods 1,4,5,7 - School photographs!!! Continued reading "The Most Dangerous Game" pages 23-26 and completed the story clues/predictions chart for those pages. This will be checked on Wednesday.

September 15
Read pages 27-32 in "The Most Dangerous Game" (literature textbook). Complete the story clues and predictions for those pages. List the important setting from the story and what has happened at each one.
September 16Periods 1,4,5,7 - Technology assignment in the media center. Connecting the settings to images using taggalaxy.de and then explaining what we learned about the characters from the events that occurred at the various settings. We will complete the assignment next Thursday.

September 17
Periods 1,4,5 - Finished reading "The Most Dangerous Game" and completed the story clues/predictions chart.
Period 7 - Homecoming assembly - worked on pages 32-33 in class.

September 20
Period 1 - Questions 1-11 (do not complete #5) on page 37 in complete sentences with text support to show your understanding.
Periods 4,5,7 - Questions 1-11 (do not complete #5) on page 37 AND vocabulary check (antonyms) 1-5 on page 38.

September 21

Class activities on prefixes, context clues, and using vivid verbs when writing. Practice activities during class. Complete the vocabulary context clues worksheet for homework - be sure to include the correct definition AND the part of speech for each term.


September 22

Foreshadowing Poster: Provide a definition of foreshadowing, locate a direct qoute from the text that shows the author using foreshadowing, locate a scene later in the text that proves the foreshadowing has happened, explain how foreshadowing added to the suspense of the story.

September 23

Assessment activities for "The Most Dangerous Game". Selected response/matching quiz and three paragraph timed writing piece about the author's use of foreshadowing. Progress reports will be ready on Monday. Mid-term is next week!!!
